On Friday night I spent 2 moving hours with a dear friend at the new expanded MoMA in New York that is opening on the 21st of October to the public.
It was a spectacular experience.
We were super impressed by everything we saw, felt and experienced: The size of the total new building including the expansion is unbelievable; the scope and scale of the exhibitions is mind-boggling; and the new inclusion of a huge breadth of recent and contemporary art, now represented in force, is fine.
The building and the curatorship give a wonderful sense of endless art- a dwelling that you can indulge in an immersive and complete art experience with no limitations. The feeling that you can now easily spend a whole day on ONE floor without stress or missing the light or sense of lightness – is amazing.
Kudos to the MoMA team and to Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, the architects. They should feel proud of bringing to life a new phase in the ever-changing continuous growth of this monumental, still shockingly young (after almost 100 years) foundational global cultural institution.
It’s truly an enormous success.
